six-word story play

Hello dear Joyfueller,
Want to play for joy? I had a lovely conversation with customer service person at my cell phone company today. Somehow we found ourselves talking about writing. He told me he used to write. I told him I went through a very long period where I didn’t write at all, a drought that was a difficult time for me.

My new friend helped my original problem, then at the end of our call I said to him, “Hey, not sure if you want to write again, but if you do perhaps this might be a fun thing for you to try…” then I went on to tell him about Ernest Hemingway’s love of six-word stories. Hemingway is renowned for many things including inventing these pithy little word packets.

(Although I love Ernie, I’m thinking early humans probably invented them, round the fire one night… if we were truly earnest about it  😉 )
Anyway I shared one I wrote with my new friend–a deeply personal six-word story that took me 7 years to live. Six-word stories invite a great opportunity to write and capture an essence of something meaningful to you, and maybe to others too.

Why not have a go this weekend? What 6-word story do you have to tell? Perhaps write about something to do with life, your history/herstory? or your week, or today? or your imaginary rhinoceros? Want to play? If so, share your story in comments, maybe share where you are in our world too?!  You can post on social media with a new hashtag just for our community #mediaforjoyfuel. I’d love to feature your story(ies) in a future post!

(Oh…. about my new phone company friend? He was curious and he said he was going to try it. He missed writing.)

Have a Joyfuelled weekend dear love. I look forward to reading your stories. xoxo
